Hello, I’m Dr. Ron Henry, and I’m the senior partner in Northwoods Urology of Texas. Basically, during medical school, I really started medical school thinking I wanted to be a pediatrician, probably because my own pediatrician was my inspiration, and also a family friend.
And when I had finished the two years of basic sciences, my first clinical rotation was pediatrics. And I finished with pediatric and I said, no way would I be a pediatrician. My next rotation was surgery. And I thought, wow, this is fascinating. So the following year, I was able to take a lot of surgical subspecialty electives, including urology, orthopedics, plastic surgery. But urology just sort of filled a bill for me.
It allowed me to be more of a gentleman surgeon. It didn’t typically have a whole lot of ER call or emergency stuff. I got to treat men, women, and children, and it just fulfilled what my expectations of what was going to be gratifying to me. And it’s just been just what I expected. I did my residency training in urology down in Houston at the University of Texas Health Science Center. And when I finished residency, my wife and I looked at various places to practice. But I was really recruited to Tomball because they didn’t have a urologist and were looking to have somebody full-time.
So I really started my practice there as a solo practice in 1980. I worked in Tomball a couple of years and I was approached by some friends or colleagues in Conroe. And well, hey, we hear good things about you. How about doing some work in Conroe? So I began to do some work in Conroe in addition to Tomball, and that pretty soon got just a little too busy. So I was on the lookout for somebody to join me. Basically, I had heard good things from my residency chairman about Dr. John Giannakis, really sort of recruited him. And, you know, it’s just not very hard to sell somebody on The Woodlands.
So Dr. Giannakis came out and joined me actually in December of 1992, and things have just expanded since then. We’ve added doctors. We now have five doctors in the group. We have two satellite offices. Our primary office is actually here in The Woodlands. This is our headquarters. But we cover a lot of suburban North Houston Woodlands, Montgomery County, Walker County. And really, it’s just been a great place to develop and grow a practice.
Through the years, the advancement and techniques, equipment, medication have just really blossomed, and things are so much different now than they were back in the day. Those were the days when people would get admitted to the hospital the day before surgery, spend three or four days in the hospital. And these are things that we almost always do as an outpatient nowadays, and much of it actually done in the office.
So the improvement has just made things a lot easier, and also opened our horizons to be able to continuously adapt. I mean, we’re always on the lookout for ways to benefit our patients and offer them the very best with our expertise. Thank you for watching, and I hope this introduction to urology has been helpful for you. We provide expert and compassionate care here at Northwood Urology of Texas. And if you feel that you might have a need for our services, please feel free to contact us or get a referral if necessary, and we’d be more than happy to take care of you.
