Hi, my name is Dr. Paul Rizk. I’m one of the new general urologists here at Northwoods Urology. So as a general urologist, I treat male and female voiding dysfunction, kidney stones, sexual health, and then cancers of the genitourinary tract. So kidneys, bladder, prostate, and male reproductive organs. In terms of surgeries, I offer endoscopic surgery, which is basically with a small camera, robotic, and open surgery. So a little bit about me, I went to middle and high school here in Houston. I did my undergraduate at Yale University, my medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, and my residency training in urology at the University of Miami in Florida.
One of the things that drew me to urology in the first place, when I first rotated in it, when I was a medical student, was the relationship that you can build with your patients in urology. Usually, you’re following patients over a long period of time. You’re talking about issues that they may be uncomfortable bringing up, and overall, you’re really looking to improve quality of life. I think that personal aspect of urology is what drew me to urology in the first place.
So the most important thing to me is to make sure that my patient feels heard. At the end of every clinic visit, make sure that we’ve addressed everything that they want to talk about, and that they feel overall good with the plan that we came up with going forward. So if there’s something that I could tell my patients is bring it up. I think when we think about urology, a lot of times we have shame around some issues, we feel more hesitant to talk about other issues, and conditions can go untreated or unrecognized even for a long time.
So I would say this is a safe space, definitely bring it up and we can work through it together. So I think the most meaningful moments come when I least expect it, when a patient or a patient family member pulls me aside and says, “Thank you for whether it was a treatment or procedure that’s really changed their life.” I think that that’s really why I chose urology in the first place, and what makes me love what I do. Again, this is Dr.
Paul Rizk here at Northridge Urology. If you are troubled by any of the issues we talked about, please don’t hesitate to come see me and we can come up with a plan that’s best for you.
